about

I wrote and recorded this one shortly before leaving Bamako, with Yacouba playing percussion. Matt added harp back in France, and Orit and Chris sent parts via the wonders of modern technology.

lyrics

Sunday evening silence falling slow
just a distant diesel motor rumbling low
the days and nights keep tumbling by so fast
let's savour every moment while it lasts

Let's take a little step out of the race
as I watch the lamp light up your face
your eyes say everything there is to tell
and words would only break the spell

And now you're drifting off to sleep
into midnight shadows dark and deep
dipping into silver pools of dreams
until you let go and slip into the stream

Another Monday morning comes too soon
to strip away the warmth of our cocoon
but the embers of the night all fade away
with the magic of a smile to light the day
