about

A traditional American folk song which I learned from a version by Bert Jansch. Baba was one of the first musicians I met when I arrived in Bamako, and we recorded this song the first time we got together to make music.

lyrics

I'm walking down the track, I've got tears in my eyes
I'm trying to read a letter from my home
If that train does me right I'll be home tomorrow night
'cos I'm 900 miles from my home

I will pawn you my watch, I will pawn you my chain
I will pawn you my gold diamond ring
If that train does me right I'll see my woman tomorrow night
'cos I'm 900 miles from my home

The train that I'm on is 100 coaches long
you can hear the whistle blowing a million miles
If that train does me right I'll see my woman tomorrow night
'cos I'm 900 miles from my home

I'm walking down the track, I've got tears in my eyes
I'm trying to read a letter from my home
If that train does me right I'll be home tomorrow night
'cos I'm 900 miles from my home
